CPU Successfully held "The Belt and Road" International Conference on Cooperation and Integration of Pharmaceutical Industry, Education and Application

To further improve the international students education mechanism under the new model of integration of industry and education, promote the high-quality development of international students education, and strengthen the opening and cooperation of pharmaceutical education to the outside world, on 2nd June, China Pharmaceutical University (short as “CPU”) successfully held the "The Belt and Road" International Conference on Cooperation and Integration of Pharmaceutical Industry, Education and Application & the Preparatory Meeting for BRI Pharmacy Education Consortium. Dr. Sourisak Sounvoravong, Deputy Director of the Food and Drug Department of Ministry of Health of Laos, Ms. Shi Yunyu, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Jiangsu Provincial Education Department, and Prof. Kong Lingyi, Vice President of CPU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The conference invited more than 30 representatives from governments and colleges from seven "Belt and Road" countries, including Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia, South Korea, and Nepal, as well as representatives from Guobang Pharma Ltd., Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group, Nanjing Shenghe Pharmaceutical Co.,LTD., CPU-Pharma Co., LTD., and neighborhood colleges and universities to attend the event. The opening ceremony and keynote speeches part were presided over by Xu Ming, Dean of the School of International Education of CPU, and Zhu Zhilong, deputy dean.

At the opening ceremony, Vice President Kong Lingyi delivered the welcome speech. He pointed out that the integration of industry, university and research is the inevitable result of the development of science, technology, and economy, which is also an important way to improve the quality and efficiency of international pharmaceutical talents education. CPU closely combines the resource advantages of the countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" and the talent needs in the process of the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine and the international cooperation of well-known pharmaceutical enterprises, constantly promotes the training of international students and the cooperation with well-known domestic pharmaceutical enterprises, and promotes the integration of industry, education, and science. At the same time, it is expected that this conference will further pool innovative resource elements in the field of pharmacy in the countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" in terms of government, production, learning, research, and application, etc., so as to better explore the effective mode of talent training, technology transfer and transformation, and international scientific research cooperation in the field of pharmacy, and promote the connection between pharmaceutical scientific and technological achievements and industrial needs, enable the pharmaceutical industry structural adjustment and transformation and upgrading, serve the "Belt and Road" strategic cooperation to promote the international development of the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Sourisak Sounvoravong, deputy director of the Food and Drug Department of the Ministry of Health of Laos, said in his speech that China and Laos have increasingly close exchanges and cooperation in economic and trade investment, education and science and technology, and this conference has built a platform for China and Laos to discuss cooperation opportunities and build a new pattern of cooperation in the field of medicine and health. We hope to take this opportunity to jointly promote international exchanges and cooperation in multilateral scientific and technological innovation, joint training of talents and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. The Food and Drug Department of Ministry of Health of Laos also looks forward to working with friends from all walks of life to expand cooperation platforms, innovate cooperation models, expand cooperation results, and jointly contribute more wisdom and strength to promoting innovative development.

Ms. Shi Yunyu, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, said that Jiangsu has always taken the opening of education as an important starting point to promote the high-quality development of higher education, and has taken the promotion of joint scientific research and academic exchanges between Jiangsu universities and foreign universities as an important direction of Jiangsu's education opening to the outside world. The international cooperation platform for industry, university and science is an innovative measure of openness and win-win cooperation. The forum will strongly boost international scientific and technological innovation and accelerate the construction of a new pattern of high-level, open, and win-win cooperation.

During the conference, "Pharmacy Talent Training Base of Food and Drug Department of Ministry of Health of Laos" was established, Vice President Kong Lingyi and deputy Director Sourisak Sounvoravong jointly unveiled the plague. The base will rely on the superior resources of talents, education and scientific research of CPU to help the Lao Ministry of Health to improve the talent reserve and comprehensive capacity of food and drug pharmacy and boost scientific research cooperation in the field of medicine and health.

After the opening ceremony, Professor Xu Ming, Dean of the School of International Education of our University; Professor Liang Deok-Chun Yang, School of Life Science of Kyung Hee University; Dr. Zhang Donghui, Vice Dean of the School of International Education of Nanjing Medical University; Mr. Kongchack Phommachack, Medical Device Management Office of the Food and Drug Department of the Ministry of Health of Laos, Ms. Li Yanan of Guobang Pharma Ltd. and Mr. Li Weijun, head of Human Resource system of Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group, delivered keynote speeches respectively. Subsequently, Mr. Zhu Zhilong, vice Dean of the School of International Education, made a preparatory report on the establishment of BRI Pharmacy Education Consortium.

In the afternoon, sub-forums were held respectively in the School of Pharmacy, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the School of Basic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacy. Guests shared the latest research progress around three themes, which are “New Drug Targets and Original Drug Discovery”, “Natural Active Molecules Discovery” and “Cultivation Mode for Pharmacy Talents”. Participants conducted in-depth academic exchanges continuously.

On 3rd June, the guests visited Yangtze Pharmaceutical Group. During the conference, the guests and representatives also visited the Pharmacy Museum and the Pharmaceutical Experiments Building. It is the first time that the project has been approved to undertake independently the annual project of “China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week 2023” and has been included in the annual project activities of "China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week 2023".
